Aleshire & Wynder LLP’s team of Norm Dupont, Anthony Taylor, Cody Parker, Natasha Van Hoven, and Kristina Correa are proud to support the City of Huntington Beach in a key California Voting Rights Act case.
As the Daily Journal noted in its June 4, 2026 “Cases We are Watching” column, the Orange County Superior Court (Judge Griffin) has now taken under submission the case of Southwest Voter Registration and Education Project v. City of Huntington Beach. The A&W team, along with Senior Deputy City Attorney Andrew Kornoff for the City of Huntington Beach, tried this case to Judge Griffin in February 2026. After an initial round of post-trial briefs, the Court expressly directed further briefing on the impact of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Louisiana v. Callais, 608 U.S. ___, 146 S.Ct. 1131 (Apr. 29, 2026).
On June 2, 2026 the team submitted its supplemental brief to the Court on the impact of Callais, and the matter now stands under submission. A&W anticipates that this could be one of the first California cases to determine the impact of the US Supreme Court’s decision on Callais to California Voting Rights Act litigation.
