Mary Hanna is an Associate in the Firm’s Los Angeles office, where she represents public agencies in a broad range of municipal law and litigation matters.
Prior to joining the Firm, Ms. Hanna served as a Deputy City Attorney for the City of Los Angeles, where she defended the City in complex labor and employment litigation. She also served as a Deputy City Attorney for the City of Riverside, advising on matters involving public safety, code enforcement, and constitutional law. Her in-house municipal experience provides her with a practical understanding of the legal, operational, and political considerations facing public agencies.
Ms. Hanna advises the Firm’s clients on a wide array of issues affecting municipal government, including labor and employment matters such as discrimination and workplace claims, code enforcement, Brown Act compliance, public records issues, and constitutional law. She works closely with agency staff and leadership to deliver timely, strategic guidance that supports effective governance and risk management.
In addition to her advisory practice, Ms. Hanna maintains an active civil litigation practice. She has served as first and second chair in jury trials, securing favorable verdicts on behalf of public agency clients. She has also achieved early case resolutions through dispositive motion practice and successfully recovered attorneys’ fees where appropriate.
Ms. Hanna combines strong legal analysis with firsthand governmental experience, enabling her to anticipate challenges and craft practical, solution-oriented strategies that align with both legal requirements and the realities of public service.
