Mr. Malawy is an Associate of the Firm and focuses his practice on property acquisition and takings litigation, including the defense of regulatory taking and inverse condemnation claims. He advises clients on land use, zoning, and environmental issues, and assists cities with municipal code enforcement.
Mr. Malawy is involved in defending cities in a number of multi-million dollar inverse condemnation suits. He assists clients in acquiring property through the use of eminent domain for public infrastructure and redevelopment purposes. He has drafted and been involved in defending moratoria and other ordinances regulating the use of land.
He has experience litigating and advising clients on compliance with state and federal environmental laws, including CEQA, NEPA, CERCLA, the Clean Water Act, and the Polanco Redevelopment Act.
Mr. Malawy attended the University of Southern California Law School in Los Angeles, where he received his J.D. in 2007. While there, he was a member of the Review of Law and Social Justice and served as a law clerk at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Regional Counsel in San Francisco. His experience with environmental regulatory issues at the EPA makes him a valuable part of the land use and environmental teams at the Firm.
He received a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Economics & Policy and a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications from the University of California, Berkeley in 2004.
