Lesley Cheung is an associate with the Firm and focuses her practice on land use and zoning, property acquisition, litigation, and code enforcement.
Ms. Cheung provides a wide range of legal advice to her city clients on land use and zoning issues, first amendment, mobilehome park issues, and affordable housing. She has also had primary responsibility for overseeing code enforcement in a number of jurisdictions, evaluating cases, negotiating settlements and handling all judicial appearances.
Ms. Cheung is also a member of our Land Use litigation team and has been involved in all stages of property acquisition. Ms. Cheung has experience in both condemnation and inverse takings claims and assisted in a valuation trial in which the City obtained a unanimous jury verdict in favor of the City of a contaminated property with abandoned oil wells.
Prior to joining the Firm, Ms. Cheung attended the University of Southern California Law School, where she received her J.D. in 2006. While there, she was a member of the Interdisciplinary Law Journal and served as the Alumni Chair of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association. Ms. Cheung externed for the Honorable Ernest M. Hiroshige in the Los Angeles Superior Court. While in law school, Ms. Cheung also interned with the General Counsel Department of the Los Angeles City Attorney.
She received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Cornell University in 2003 and Concentrations in International Relations and Law & Society. She is a current member of the Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassador Network.
Ms. Cheung is a member of the Southern California Chinese Lawyer’s Association, American Bar Association, Los Angeles County Bar Association and speaks Cantonese Chinese and Spanish.
