As an Associate of the Firm, Ms. Lopez provides a wide range of legal advice to her city clients from land use issues to code enforcement activities as a City Prosecutor. She is presently the Assistant City Attorney in Baldwin Park. In addition to a variety of land use matters, Ms. Lopez advises clients on first amendment and communications issues including cable franchising, billboards and cell tower siting. She has also had primary responsibility for overseeing code enforcement in a number of jurisdictions, evaluating cases, negotiating settlements and handling all judicial appearances.
Ms. Lopez is involved with risk management and police litigation, including excessive force matters and has worked on a wrongful death matter involving three law enforcement agencies. Ms. Lopez’s experience also involves the practice of employment law, with includes representation before administrative bodies, personnel investigations, Fair Labor Standard Act analysis and client advice. Ms Lopez has experience conducting depositions, interviews, court appearances, mediations and jury trials.
Ms. Lopez focused on argumentation, was a member of the debate team and became President of the Forensics Squad at San Diego State University, where she graduated in 1999 with a degree in Communications. She then attended Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law in Washington D.C. where she received her J.D. in 2002. While there, she received the Best Oralist award in two Moot Court competitions and was on the National Telecommunications Moot Court Competition Team. She served as President of the Environmental Law Society and was also coordinator of the Latin American Law Student Association.
During law school, Ms. Lopez specialized in Communications Law as a member of the Institute for Communications Law Studies. She interned for the Federal Communications Commission where she advised the Bureau Chief of the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau and Commissioner Tristani on communications law and policy matters. After graduation, she joined a D.C. law firm where she worked on telecommunications issues and dealings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, until returning to California and joining the Firm in 2004.
Currently Ms. Lopez is an Executive Board Member of the Hispanic Bar Association and a member of the League of California Cities, Latino Caucus.
